Embracing Gratitude During Tough Times

Embracing Gratitude During Tough Times

Day 2 without power.

No lights. No television. No hot water.

And yet, somehow, life keeps reminding me of all the things I still have.

I have a roof over my head.

I have water when I turn on the faucet.

My daughter and grandbabies aren’t home right now, but they are safe, and that matters more than convenience ever could.

Without television to distract me, I’ve found myself writing more, thinking more, noticing more.

It made me wonder how many beautiful little things get pushed aside when life gets big.

We spend so much time chasing deadlines, paying bills, solving problems, and worrying about tomorrow that we forget to appreciate what is right in front of us today.

Family.

Friends.

Faith.

A cool breeze on a hot afternoon.

The icy shock of creek water on tired feet.

That ugly sweater Grandma made years ago that somehow becomes your favorite thing on the coldest day of winter.

The sound of children laughing somewhere in the distance when you feel alone.

The quiet stretch of a cat as she settles beside you, offering love without a single word.

A good book.

A prayer.

A moment of silence.

A chance to simply sit and reflect.

Maybe that’s the lesson hidden inside inconveniences. Sometimes when the noise disappears, we’re finally able to hear the things that matter most.

Today, I’m grateful for the little things.

The truth is, they were never little at all.
